News - 60,000 water customers in Sacramento County urged to cut use - sacbee.com

advertisement

STOP USING WATER!!! THERE IS NONE LEFT!!! We have two rivers flowing through Sacramento and our area, yet because of allocations to Southern California, the residents are asked to cut water usage. So, the county says to slow water usage. This says 60,000 customers will be affected, but, does that mean 1 customer per household? or numerous customers per household? or 60,000 is the number the agency bills? If that is the case then we can be talking about 60,000, 120,000 or 180,000 or more people being affected by this cut.
Either way, with the continuing drought here in CA water is a very precious commodity and this problem will only worsen. Water agencies are asking people to conserve and for the most part this is second nature for the people of Northern California. There is a lot of animosity towards the people in Southern California. Here in NorCal most see SoCal only concerned with 'green lawns' and swimming pools', while we up here in NC conserve, allow our lawns to go brown, generally cut back on using water. Most of the time I drive with a dirty car, only wash my car at a car wash 4 times a year. Sure our own area has seen an population increase, and yes the county should have made better arrangements for water sources, but this is a bold faced threat. It says CONSERVE or loose water delivery for the rest of the year. WHY wasn't there better monitoring before it got to this stage? Earlier in the year there should have been notices for conserving. Why wait until the last minute?

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Judging by some of the locals comments to our newspaper I may not be the only one blaming SoCal for part of this problem.

Others to blame are the county supervisors which allowed development in a 'dry' area with no water sources for these residents. They were relying on the ever tapped water allocations from the rivers that flow through the region.

Water is very precious.

Can you imagine going to your faucet one day to get a glass of water to drink and nothing coming out, or if any, its a trickle? This is what the '60,000 customers' are facing from now to the end of the year.
