He is rounding third base and barreling toward 80, and yet Guy Anderson defies time.
He has put a hold on advancing age with a zest for life, family, achievement and baseball – lots of baseball. Anderson is in the midst of his 40th season as Cordova High School coach.
Prowling the third-base box. Challenging the strike zone of an umpire like a riled-up rooster. Trumpeting the triumphs of his players, including shortstop Scott Callen – who happens to be Anderson's grandson.
And winning. Always winning. With 834 Cordova Lancers victories, Anderson is the winningest coach in regional history, for any sport.
That victory total is the third highest in national high school baseball history and, in July, Anderson will be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame, the top honor for a prep coach.
